ABOUT THE STAR CONSTELLATION MAP
This wide format Vintage Star Map print is based on a restored and very rare vintage Constellation Map from 1849 but still feels modern and timeless. This is one of our most popular prints and has been featured on Emily Henderson’s home decor and design blog. This star constellation map has many fine details such as hand-drawn stars, stippled celestial forms, hand-drawn typography and a slightly distressed antique patina.
These maps were originally designed as 19th Century nautical tools by sailors on long journeys. The description that accompanied this map is as follows:
“The months marked at the foot of the map are to show the aspect of the Equatorial Heavens about midnight. By noting the stars on the map immediately over the name of the month, and then looking at the sky in the opposite direction to the elevated pole, the different constellations will readily be recognized. In Southern latitudes, reverse the star map.”
The print has a 2:1 aspect ratio except for the 36″ x 24″ which has been adjusted to a more standard rectangular size. Available in 4 colors – black, blue, navy and slate gray.
This is a companion piece to my popular Southern Constellations print: https://www.capricorn-press.com/product/blue-star-map-constellation-print/
